6th Street is a three unit apartment complex in Oakland hosting two two bedroom units, one single bedroom unit, a two car garage, and a small center courtyard.
Jack Backus, my former boss, purchased a blank lot in Oakland’s China Town with a desire to transform it into a small apartment complex. He ran free with the design, embracing the rare opportunity of having only himself as the client. I gave minor input in the design process and mainly drafted for this project. 6th Street was a learning curve for both my boss and I as neither of us had been responsible for issues that developers typically would be in charge of nor had we worked on something that wasn’t a single family residential building in ten years or (in my case) ever. It was new, exciting, and difficult which made it one of the most enjoyable projects at this firm.
